Circumcision
Famimed provides safe, professional circumcision under the care of Dr Chaudhry Ahmed. Circumcision is available for infants (0–12 months) as well as adolescents and adults (from age 10+).
Each procedure includes a comprehensive pre-assessment, the use of local anaesthetic, and attentive post-procedure care.
Infant Circumcision (0-12 months)
Infant circumcision in Australia is generally considered safe when performed by a trained healthcare professional in an appropriate medical setting. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks, including bleeding, infection, and issues with wound healing.
It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider to discuss the possible benefits and risks in relation to your child’s individual circumstances before making a decision.
Adolescent & Adult Circumcision (10+ years)
We are pleased to offer circumcision services for adolescents and adults. Whether the procedure is required for medical reasons or personal hygiene, our experienced team is committed to delivering safe, professional, and compassionate care.

Improved Hygiene
Circumcision may make genital hygiene easier, as the removal of the foreskin reduces the likelihood of debris and bacteria accumulating under the foreskin.
Reduced Risk of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Research suggests that circumcision may lower the risk of urinary tract infections in males, particularly during infancy and early childhood.
Prevention of Foreskin-Related Conditions
Circumcision eliminates the possibility of conditions such as phimosis (a tight foreskin that cannot be retracted) and paraphimosis (a retracted foreskin that cannot return to its normal position), both of which can cause discomfort and may require medical treatment.
Lower Risk of Inflammation
Circumcision may reduce the likelihood of conditions such as posthitis (inflammation of the foreskin) and balanitis (inflammation of the head of the penis), which are often associated with irritation or infection.
Reduced Risk of Some Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
Studies indicate that circumcision may lower the risk of acquiring certain sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, herpes simplex virus (HSV), and human papillomavirus (HPV), although it does not eliminate the risk.
Lower Risk of Penile Cancer
Circumcision has been associated with a reduced risk of penile cancer, a rare condition, partly due to a lower likelihood of chronic infections and inflammation.
Possible Reduction in Prostate Cancer Risk
Some research suggests a potential association between circumcision and a lower risk of prostate cancer, although further studies are needed to confirm this relationship.
Before the circumcision procedure, a pre-assessment appointment is required. This involves a comprehensive review of the patient’s medical history, current health, and any factors that may affect the safety of the procedure.
During this appointment, your doctor will explain the procedure in detail, answer any questions, and ensure that everyone involved understands the process and feels comfortable proceeding.
If necessary, additional pre-operative checks or screening tests may be arranged to confirm that the procedure can be performed safely. The purpose of the pre-assessment is to ensure the best possible care and outcomes by identifying and addressing any potential concerns in advance.
Following the consultation, our nursing team will assist in scheduling the procedure and any required follow-up appointments at a time that suits you.
You will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare your son for the circumcision procedure. This may include guidance on feeding times to help keep your baby comfortable.
For babies older than four weeks, Panadol may be recommended after the procedure for comfort. During the procedure, a sweetened pacifier may also be used to help soothe and distract your baby.
Local anaesthesia is typically used during infant circumcision to minimise pain and discomfort throughout the procedure.
Its use is widely regarded as safe and helps ensure that the infant remains as comfortable as possible during the procedure.
At the end of the procedure, our healthcare team will give you a post-operative guide with detailed instructions on how to care for your infant.
Our team is also available by phone after the surgery to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
A follow-up appointment with your doctor should be scheduled 2–3 weeks after your child’s circumcision to check the healing of the surgical site.
