Vasectomy
Famimed provides safe, professional vasectomy services* under the care of Dr Chaudhry Ahmed.
Each procedure includes a comprehensive pre-assessment, the use of local anaesthetic, and attentive post-procedure care.
The vasectomy service uses a no-scalpel technique performed under local anaesthetic. It is a quick, minimally invasive procedure that typically involves a short recovery time and does not require stitches.
*A consultation is required to discuss the procedure, recovery process, and to assess suitability based on individual circumstances.
“Vasectomy is a popular method of contraception for men. Statistics show that around one in four Australian men over 40 has opted for this procedure.”
Before a vasectomy, you will attend a consultation with your healthcare provider. During this visit, the procedure will be explained in detail and your suitability for the procedure will be assessed.
A vasectomy is considered a permanent form of contraception. Although reversal procedures exist, they are not always successful, so it is important that you are certain about your decision not to have children, or not to have more children.
This appointment also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss whether the procedure is right for you.
Dr Chaudhry performs the no-scalpel vasectomy technique, a minimally invasive procedure carried out under local anaesthetic.
This method involves a very small opening rather than an incision, which helps reduce bleeding, lowers the risk of infection, and allows for quicker recovery. The procedure does not require stitches and usually takes about 30 minutes
After the procedure, mild soreness, swelling, or bruising in the scrotal area is common and usually settles within one to two weeks.
Patients are advised to rest and avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for several days to support healing.
You must continue using alternative contraception until a follow-up semen test confirms that no sperm remain.
A semen analysis is typically performed about four months after the vasectomy to confirm that your sperm count is zero.
Contraception should continue until your doctor confirms that the test result is clear.
Regular ejaculation starting about one week after the procedure may help clear remaining sperm more quickly.
